Pink Floyd
This used to be one of my favorite places to visit when I came to this side of town.
I recently went by to check out the reptile room. The snake was gone already, with only one lonely turtle stuck in a glass topped table. But I was able to hang out in a room by myself (a rarity anymore), while a long Bob Marley set played through some great Bose speakers.
I was curious about their menu since they showed “Ice” hash on it. I tried to ask the dealer about it, whether it was Ice-O-Lator, but he didn’t have a clue what I was talking about! So I had to explain to him how it was made. He showed me a box that had many different types and colors of Ice-O-Lator, and it smelled really rank (moldy). It is a BIG no-no to mix various hashes especially when somethings gone off. So I’m revising the rating on this place (down) because they could at least get in someone who knows what they’re selling, and store it properly!
I still think this is an interesting place to hang out in on this side of town, but I’d think twice about buying any smoke here…

Old Church
Nice outside seating opposite from the entrance to the Oude Kerk. A great place to hang in the shade and watch the tourists and “johns” on their way to the red-lit cabins in the narrow alleys that surround the old church. Keep your eye out for the especially gorgeous babes on their way to “work” in the afternoons and evenings.
If you’re lucky you’ll get serenaded by the Church bells during your visit!

The Otherside
THE Gay coffeeshop on THE Gay street. Small coffeeshop, lots of men, and great Space Cake to be found here! Very small place, often crowded.

Pretty low key and relaxing… this place has seen better times. But for a great experience of an old-style Amsterdam coffeeshop this is the place. Take the Damstraat from the Dam Square to find this place, on the Oude Hoogstraat – reputed to be Amsterdam’s seediest street 10 years ago – now an oasis of shops and fun.

Bluebird
The Bluebird is a very popular coffeeshop that offers up an excellent array of hashish and marijuana, with samples displayed in two large books by the dealers corner (don’t lean on them while you’re standing in line!).
The two-story place can get very crowded at times, and waiting in the narrow space by dealer’s counter for service is no fun. There is a cozy area with sofa and chairs, but those are usually taken, leaving mostly tall stools at small counters. Your best bet is the two outside tables in the summer.
The music is usually good, but it’s not such a cozy place to hang out. However, if you’re looking for a great selection of imported hashish, especially the black kind, like Afghani, Nepali, or Malana this is THE place! I recommend the Mazar-I-Sharif. They also sell some tasty cannabis bon-bons here.

Topweazle
One of the many “neighborhood” shops for the locals. This one better than the rest with great grass and inexpensive drinks. The friendly counter staff remembers almost everyone and their desires, making suggestions as well. Not far from the intersection of Woustraat and the Victorieplein. Nice cool place to hang, park your bike right in front to keep an eye on it and the groceries…

Funny People
Newer coffeeshop near Centraal Station, behind St. Nicholas’ Kerk. Relaxing in an almost smoke-free air-conditioned environment on one of Amsterdam’s hottest evenings was the treat here! The music was nice, people friendly, and the Orange Bud was acceptable. But the stools are uncomfortable and I kept banging my head on a display case of pipes for sale – badly placed right above the only free table in the back corner. Be careful.

Hemp Ale
hempale.jpg
Hemp Ale is a delightful treat from the Humboldt Brewing Company. It’s made with real cannabis seeds mixed in the mash, adding a spicy sweetness to the flavor. And flavorful it is! This reddish brown colored beer is bursting with flavor, tasting of chocolate and nuts, reminicent of fine Belgian Beers. It reminds me a lot of Westmalle, an excellent trappist beer.
A large foamy head tops each glass and lingers on just like fine Belgian brews. You’d think this beer was just a gimmick with marijuana seeds, but indeed it’s a fine brew by a quality company.
Humboldt Brewing is no longer based in Arcata as they outgrew their facility there in 2002. So it’s now produced in Paso Robles, California, south of Monterey.

The Black
The Black is a long standing tradition in Ocean Beach, California. This great headshop has an outstanding collection of items beyond the usual headshop paraphernalia. There’s a good selection of clothing, jewelry, posters and an excellent bookstore.
Don’t miss this place if you visit O.B.

Electric Ladyland
A great headshop in the wonderful Bardstown Road district. They have a great selection of vynil records from the 60’s and 70’s. They also have a great selection of cd’s. One feature that i love to check out every time I happen passing through; is their "blacklight cave" which is a specially constructed area to showcase their selection of blacklight posters. Electric Ladyland has a very nice assortment of pipes, bongs, bubblers and various other "accessories." EL carries Salvia Divinorum in varying potencies. They have a decent selection of clothing. T shirts and indian clothes.
Electric Ladyland is your best bet for smoking accessories in the Louisville area. It is a great shop that I try to stop by when I am in the area to look at their new pieces and whatever new records I can dig up.
