The Volcano Vaporizer

The Volcano is a high quality vaporizing device that burns cannabis or other materials at precise temperatures, yielding "cleaner" smoke, an advantage especially for medical marijuana patients.

By using a vaporizer you inhale far less toxins because it’s designed to heat at a lower temperature, allowing THC to vaporize without actually burning the vegetable matter and releasing carcinogens.

This device is superior to others on the market. And now they have one with a digital display.

As the vapors are released they’re caught in a big bag. Inhaling the nearly transparent smoke is cool and sweet.

This device is highly recommended for anyone with a medical condition. It effectively transmits the pain giving properties of cannabis, however many people are disappointed with the resultng "high." The heavy stone, along with much of the euphoria is missing. This is a feature common to all vaporizers.

Electric Ladyland

A great headshop in the wonderful Bardstown Road district. They have a great selection of vynil records from the 60’s and 70’s. They also have a great selection of cd’s. One feature that i love to check out every time I happen passing through; is their "blacklight cave" which is a specially constructed area to showcase their selection of blacklight posters. Electric Ladyland has a very nice assortment of pipes, bongs, bubblers and various other "accessories." EL carries Salvia Divinorum in varying potencies. They have a decent selection of clothing. T shirts and indian clothes.

Electric Ladyland is your best bet for smoking accessories in the Louisville area. It is a great shop that I try to stop by when I am in the area to look at their new pieces and whatever new records I can dig up.

Hemp Ale

hempale.jpg
Hemp Ale is a delightful treat from the Humboldt Brewing Company. It’s made with real cannabis seeds mixed in the mash, adding a spicy sweetness to the flavor. And flavorful it is! This reddish brown colored beer is bursting with flavor, tasting of chocolate and nuts, reminicent of fine Belgian Beers. It reminds me a lot of Westmalle, an excellent trappist beer.

A large foamy head tops each glass and lingers on just like fine Belgian brews. You’d think this beer was just a gimmick with marijuana seeds, but indeed it’s a fine brew by a quality company.

Humboldt Brewing is no longer based in Arcata as they outgrew their facility there in 2002. So it’s now produced in Paso Robles, California, south of Monterey.

Cannabis As A Treatment For Arthritis

By: MattJackson

Marijuana has been used as a reliable medication for nearly 5,000 years and was listed as being a cure for over 100 illnesses or symptoms.

The effects of cannabinoids on the body mean that marijuana is especially useful in the fight against arthritis and its symptoms.

Medical cannabis use is far from being a new phenomenon. In fact, the ancient Chinese were using the plant to help cure, treat, and ease the symptoms of many an ailment. Chief among the uses of cannabis is its ability to help reduce inflammation and pain in the patient. It was cited as being a beneficial drug in the fight against rheumatic pain and has been used for decades to help treat sufferers with chronic pain, such as sufferers of arthritis.

There are, in fact, many types of arthritis but the two most common are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the degradation and eventual loss of cartilage from the joints; this leads to bone rubbing against bone and is typically associated with considerable pain levels. It is most commonly experienced in the hands, knees, hips, and spine. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease; its main symptom is inflammation of the synovial lining around the joints. It can lead to serious pain as well as long term disability.

There is no cure for either form of arthritis and treatment, therefore, centres on the alleviation of symptoms that present. Generally this means reducing inflammation and reducing the pain that usually accompanies both forms of the illness.

Medical marijuana has already been legalised in 18 states with more expected to follow suit. Strictly speaking, cannabis does not reduce the pain suffered by arthritis patients but it does make the pain more bearable for sufferers. Cannabinoids present in THC bind with receptors in the brain as well as the immune system and this means that the brain is unable to transmit feelings of pain in the same way.

Furthermore, cannabis works as an anti-inflammatory. Receptors in the immune system bind with the cannabinoids present in marijuana and this reduces inflammation because it prevents the immune system from fighting the body. In rheumatoid arthritis, this is one of the principle causes of inflammation – the immune system fights against otherwise healthy areas of the body causing inflammation and pain.

There are more than 400 components to be found in cannabis and research is still being conducted as to the potential medical benefits of each of these. Synthetic cannabinoid drugs like Marinol and Sativex can and are used to effectively treat many conditions in countries throughout the world but there is a growing body of evidence that points to the use of marijuana as a means to fight pain and other diseases.

There have been no reported cases of fatality caused by marijuana overdoses. The use of the drug may interact with other sedative related drugs and possible side effects include a rapid heartbeat and short-term high blood pressure. The immune system may be weakened and smoking the drug can lead to a number of lung and breathing problems as well as problem associated with smoking tobacco.

Cannabis can be taken in a number of forms, most commonly it is smoked or it may be combined with other ingredients in cannabis cooking techniques. Synthetic cannabinoid related drugs are available and these are considered safe for use by most health authorities and groups.

For arthritis sufferers, it can seem that there is no way of relieving the inflammation and pain associated with the disease. Cannabis can be viewed as a viable treatment for these ailments because it reduces both inflammation and pain while also dampening the immune system. With few side effects and an overdose level so high that it is a negligible consideration, medical marijuana could prove a highly beneficial form of treatment.

T-Mobile Censors Medical Cannabis Texts!

By: skip

Cellphone carrier, T-Mobile has been sued by a medical cannabis website for censoring texts their site was sending to those who requested information about dispensaries near them.  It’s actually a cool service because with a cellphone you can easily find the nearest cannabis dispensaries.  In several states medical cannabis is legal, and so such a service would also be legal.

It seems to be an issue of "net neutrality" and free speech wherein a communications carrier such as T-Mobile makes its own moral judgments on the content it carries, and censors that which doesn’t meet its own moral standards.  There is nothing wrong with the content being transmitted as that in itself is legal.  So the question remains how can such censorship be justified?

Meanwhile the website, Weed Maps, is losing business as a result of the censorship.

Top British Police Chief Calls for Decriminalizing Cannabis!

By: skip

Once again, the British are reevaluating their stance on illegal drugs, including cannabis.  Having reviewed the laws and effects of decriminalization in other countries like Portugal, where all personal use of drugs has been decriminalized, the British gov’t is ready to take a look at changing their own classification system for illegal drugs.

With a new government in power, and both parties in the coalition willing to reconsider the draconian approach the gov’t now has, wherein cannabis is still classified along other more dangerous drugs,  the Brits are finally ready to admit failure in their drug war.

"Hollis, chairman of the Association of Chief Police Officers’ drugs committee, said he did not want to criminalise young people caught with minor amounts of substances such as cannabis. A criminal record that could ruin their career before it began was disproportionate, he said.

Hollis said budget cuts had forced police to "prioritise" resources towards tackling organised criminal networks rather than individuals carrying drugs for personal use. He also backed calls for the current drug classification system into class A, B and C to be re-examined following concerns that bracketing substances such as heroin and ecstasy in the same class is confusing."

Cannabis had been decriminalized under Tony Blair, but politics interfered and a campaign of FEAR was launched in the U.K. with article after article of propaganda against cannabis leading to the recriminalization that still stands.

Some leading British scientists are calling for the legalization of cannabis for recreational use as well as the end of enforcement of laws against the personal use of illegal drugs.  They say it’s not only a waste of precious resources to arrest and imprison individuals for their drug use, while there are not enough resources to bring down the drug kingpins.

Let’s hope the Brits can follow the lead of California and other US states in legalizing cannabis for medical and recreational use.
