Can I use foil to reflect light?

Added by: MedMan

Yes, but you must use the dull side to reflect your light as the shinny side will produce concentrated hotspots. Using aluminum foil is a cheap alternative to using mylar or white paint, but it does not perform nearly as well.

Warning: Foil can cause what is known as hot spots. Hot spots are where light is focused like a radar dish to a point out from the surface of the foil causing any plant matter in that focused zone to become burnt or damaged from the heat concentration.
